Obama Fails the LGBT Community Once Again

If any of you have not yet heard about the latest failure of the Obama administration let me have the pleasure of enlightening you!  Obama, a self-proclaimed "fierce advocate" of LGBT rights, has done nothing as his administration filed an motion to dismiss the case of Arthur Smith and Christopher Hammer.  The lawsuit challenges the Defense of Marriage Act and argues that the law unconstitutionally deprives gay couples of the federal benefits and nationwide recognition bestowed upon non-gay marriages.

The arguments the administration is using to defend DOMA are appalling. Among other things, the brief compares gay marriages to incest, implies that gay rights are not as important as minority rights, and claims that DOMA saves the government money!

Has Obama completely forgotten his campaign promises? Has he forgotten the time, money, and effort that the gay community invested in his presidency? Someone should show him this video to remind him!

This is definitely not the administration that the LGBT community voted, volunteered, and fundraised for.  However, even as the administration has ignored the LGBT community for the past 5 months (Oh, except that one time in LA when Obama joked about marrying Axelrod) the DNC thinks that now is the perfect time to fundraise from the gay community.

Think again.  The gay community has to show the Democrats that its support will not be offered unconditionally.  Anyone who attends this event is further encouraging elected officials, such as Obama, to disregard the needs of the LGBT community once they are done collecting all of its votes and money.  In fact, Barney Frank, Tammy Baldwin, and Jared Polis would be wise to forgo this banquet in protest of the administration's attack on gay rights!
